Top 5 favorite horror movies 2 Months ago
Whats your favorite horror movies. Not the goriest or scariest but the ones you enjoy the most and why

Mines:

28 Weeks Later (This movie has a beautiful ambiance to it (film and score) without loosing Danny Boyle's guerrilla directing style from 28 days later. It's my perfect mix of psychological and physical intensity)

American Psycho (borderline horror, very original..not much to say)

Inside
(everything i've ever wanted out of a horror movie,. this movie will change your life. Anyone that has seen it will tell you the same thing)

Hellraiser Bloodline (i like clive barker's first 2 hellraiser's but I stick more to this one for some reason, I really the french puzzle box origins in this movie. This movie really stands alone in the series. Helrraiser 1, 2, and 3 were actual sequels to a particular story, and everything after hellraiser (4): Bloodline were just shitty sci-fi channel style horror with pinhead cameos)

Cannibal Holocaust (Granted I saw this movie 25 years too late to be shocked by it. Yea it's gory as fuck by 1980's standards, the only thing that disturbed me was the real turtle killing and eating in the movie. What I really enjoy about this movie is what it has to say. It's 'moral' is unlike any movie i've ever seen.

28 Days Later - I think it's better than the sequel though many people won't agree.

Inside - Probably the best horror film ever made.

3 Extremes - Three awesome short horror films by three incredible directors.

Night of the Living Dead - no need for comment

Irreversible - though not really a horror film, it's probably the most frightening film I've seen.

I dont really like horror movies, however....

28 days later-better than sequal, more character driven rather than omg blood, superb soundtrack

30 days of night- one of the only horror movies where i was worried about the people in the movie, it has its fair share of blood and guts, but it too is a character driven movie

more to come if i can think of any

-The Thing

-Event Horizon

-Gozu (More Surrealist)

-Tetsuo The Iron Man (Wait, that's another surrealist)

Actually, Horror movies don't really do it for me come to think of it... Surrealist movies and shit are awesome. They're generally so much more cerebral and they really get under your skin. Shit like the grudge and whatnot seem to be the trend and they're just so fuckin' lame....

In no order;

The Shining - Beautifully shot, superbly acted (by Nicholson and the kid who plays Danny). Plays on man's fear of the unknown and the ambiguous. Some scenes still freak the hell out of me.

The Thing - By far the best thing John Carpenter has done in my opinion. The special effects kick the shit out of CGI on all counts. The monsters are genuinely frightening and grotesque.

Kairo (pulse) - Pay no attention to the fucking travesty of an American remake, this is asian horror at it's very best (Ringu and Ju-On can suck this film's massive glowing nutsack) . Manages to scare me more than any other film and it's devoid entirely of gore and shocks. Definitely the scariest Horror I've ever experienced, but perhaps not the best.
An overlooked classic, I seriously recommend

The Wicker Man - Again, don't pay any heed to the shit festival that is the 2006 remake. This film is fucking hard-core. Everything about it is just slightly off, yet perhaps the most unsettling thing about it is that you almost sympathise with the pagan villagers. Watch it and you'll see what I mean.
WATCH THE ORIGINAL, NOT THE REMAKE. IF THE FILM YOU'RE WATCHING HAS NICHOLAS CAGE'S HEAD GETTING DOUSED IN BEES THEN IT IS NOT THE FILM I AM TALKING ABOUT.

Evil Dead 2 - FUUUUUUCK YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHGGGGGGHHHHHHHH

The wicker man-YES

evil dead II-first one was good but the ash character is more of a bitch in it...and army of darkness was good, but goofy

american psycho-i thought it was hilarious when he was running down the hall with a chainsaw and tennis shoes

the seventh seal-i wouldn't say it's horror, but classic movie worth checking out

those are favorites, but i'll have to say eraserhead kind of freaked me out (in a good way)and event horizon was pretty awesome as well..can't really think of any off the top of my head
