I don't know what he uses, but the ISP decimator is about the best noise gate you can get. Until going all digital(no feedback problems there) I would use two of them, one set low before the guitar hits the amp, and one in the serial effects loop to keep amp hiss to a minimum. BTW I saw beneath the massacre live last summer, and I thought they were sloppy and the album was misleading because the drummer only played about half the double bass stuff, and he did it poorly. But, I think they have a new drummer now, so it could be and improvement.

ive seen them 6 or 7 times (Im from ontario they tour there all the time) and they were unreal the first time I saw them...the weird thing is the bigger the crowd the worse they play its like they get too exited or something haha.

The guitar playing is always great if he even missed a note the rig would go dead quite....I've heard good things about the isp but the rack model is really expensive. Have you heard anything about the rocktron super hush c?

Hush is good, but I only have experience with the older model(mid late 90's) and I've read that they have switched out some of the components to cut cost and it has affected the unit poorly. The guy who started ISP technologies was one of the designers on the original hush noise suppressor. They are pretty pricey, but from what I've gathered it doesn't get much better. Also if you're interested in that total mute sound, dBx makes some reasonably priced two channel compressor/ gates, and that also gives you option of compressing expending your signal pre or post amplifier.
