From 3rd to 6th grade my favorite bands were linkin park and blink 182
That summer i went through an "emo" phase. I listened to taking back sunday, motion city sound track, silverstein, shit like that.
In 7th grade I discovered underoath. at the time I considered them death metal. I actually thought that was what death metal was. Not even thyre earlier metal stuff, I mean the catchy chorus ridden "Theyre only chasing saftey". It was funny too because everyone thought I was like a satanist for listening to this band, it was first time they had ever heard screamed vocals like that (besides linkin park that is).
That summer and 8th grade were comprised of old underoath, in other words, the stuff that was actually heavy, and Norma Jean. Some god awful music right there.
9th grade i got into the fall of troy, which is an arguably technical band, but i wasnt out of my shitty music phase just yet.
Up until sophmore year i listened to metal core
after that i dont really consider any of the music ive listend to to be shitty.

Guh, there was a phase of emo/ sceney shit with me too. Funeral For a Friend, Enter Shikari, From First To Last, Lost Prophets, Avenged Sevenfold and (shivering), My Chemical Romance.... but I swiftly saw through all that nonsense.
I also used to be partly into metalcore. Shit like: Killswitch Engage, All That Remains and Unearth. (All pretty weak).
And then, as a precursor to all that, there was the nu-metal: Korn, Slipknot, linkin Park. (I'm guilty of them all).
It should be mentioned though that I've always liked the mars volta which I think allows me to retain some scraps of dignity...

I did the whole metalcore scene for quite a while. Atreyu is probably the most embarrassing of those bands.

Yeah, no matter how hard I tried (That's not to suggest I actually tried very hard), I was never able to like Atreyu. I mean, they really, really suck. Big Time. Unbeknownst to them, They're like a parody of themselves. Just like My Chemical Romance.

I actually didn't listen to much music beyond The Beatles until I was about 11. Then I got into a quagmire of bullshit. Just lots of Nu-metal. Limp-Bizkit, linkin Park (BIG time) and POD.
After that I started listening to Weezer (not that bad, to be honest; I still rock it to Pinkerton) and then from there to Primus, Primus to Protest the Hero and from there I'm riding the Gravy Train to Tech-town.
