I would love to help out in any way that I can. This sounds like an amazing project. While I do think that Im technically proficient enough to play, im not in the position time wise or resource wise but I could help in other ways. As humbly as can be said, Im a great artist and can do virtually anything within the visual field so if this comes to fruition I can offer that.
However I think in order to make all this happen, there needs to be organization, which would mean finding those who want to help first and second, having those involved throw out a little more specific ideas for the direction of the project. There can be a variety of influences but there needs to be a basic direction. What do you all want this to be? (in terms of genre)

"The Apparatus" band name is taken by the guitarist of Lumsk (Norway). He owns the domain theapparatus.com. I offered to buy it from him for this site since the band is inactive, but he never got back to me :/
I completely agree that organization is the most important aspect of putting something like this together. We need to find a way that all of us who are interested can share (and log) ideas, and stay completely synced throughout the process.
Still looking for some kind of online solution for sharing audio/tabs/etc across a group...
As far as genre... depending on how we all get involved, at this point though I think something like Naked City/Lye By Mistake would work best, so we don't have to scrap too many ideas -- just work on individual sections and arrange them in the best manner.

Why not call the band "Grinding The Apparatus"?
And yeah, Naked city is a good foundation. But who's going to be inputting? so far not many seem to be able to bring the music to the table (Not necessarily in terms of skill, just time). And as well as that You'd want some solid members overseeing the whole process or else it's gonna be an uncontrollable mess.
And are you saying you'll fund those collaboration services or will we have to purchase them somewhat?

If we find the perfect solution and it just happens to cost a fee, I'll pick up the check

that's dedication paul, haha. just curious, have any of you heard of the band crotchduster? not exactly technical music by any means, but the song arrangements are so contrasting (by genre) that it's almost indescribable. if we were to put music together in this way, like previously said, there wouldn't be much scrapped material, and everyone could put their 2c in.

why dont we just use audacity for putting the songs together. I 'm pretty sure its on both mac and pc.
I can do programming, vocals, guitar and keys.

I think we're looking for somewhere to organize all the files too though. Audacity would be fine for mixing, but it just makes it difficult for everyone to hear all the parts except for the person putting it all together.

Someone could upload a riff or something, post it here, then the next person could add on top of that, then post it here, and so on and so in
and we could use audacity to do it
but that could get pretty annoying with people both adding something to the song at the same time. then there would sections with out someone's contribution. So if we did this we would need an ordered list of who's adding what.
