Meshuggah - ObZen 10 Months, 1 Week ago
This thread discusses the Content article: Meshuggah - ObZen

I'm listening to Combustion now. They definetly moved back towards their more thrashy sound with Haake playing quick 16th note based drum beats, but still incorperate the groove-ish sounds of Catch 33. I like the variation in feels. Combustion opens up with this low palm mute distortion that builds up for the explosive mathcore. Electric Red has an interesting spin with a suspensful interlude of dimished fifths with classic Meshuggah drum rolls.

Verdict: I'm excited.

Yeah, that's usually how Meshuggah is unless you're a huge fan.

Re:Meshuggah - ObZen 9 Months ago
I have listened to obZen about 15 times now.

It's a fucking great record. Truth be told, it's probably my favorite. Waaaaaaay better than Catch33, I'd say on par with DEI & Chaosphere.

The guitar solos are just phenomenal, particularly in Bleed and the last track. It's like listening to a Miles Davis solo... very lyrical (cliché I kno) controlled and well executed. I can't get track two out of my head, I love this !

I've been listening to it non-stop. It's weird but it puts me into a trance-like state. Especially at parts like the solo in Bleed. This album isn't quite as lyrically cryptic as Catch 33, but the composition and ingenuity surpass pervious efforts.

Perfect soundtrack for:
Lifting, moshing, headbanging while driving with fellow Meshuggah fans, smoking a blunt and listening to mind blowing music, and eating emo kids for breakfast
