The Number Twelve Looks Like Psyopus 1 Year ago
Anyone else notice how similar to Psyopus the last track of 'Mongrel' sounds?

Listen for yourself; it's an awesome song but if you can't stand it, at least wait until the end!

It would be hard for me to believe that the outro wasn't influenced by Imogen's Puzzle. Could it be another coincidence that the track is titled "The Try (Thank You)"?

I'd imagine that 'The Try' is the attempt at thinking forward and the 'Thank You' is for the inspiration from Psyopus...

Here are the lyrics:
Immersion in the wrong sorts.
This is my manifesto.
Tingly body.
Mind sunk deep within.
An arbitrary conversation.
Looking, seeing and feeling the wrongs.
A simplified overcoming of stature and belonging.
Nevermore, this overcompensated disillusion of downtime and no time of babbling.
I will set aside and overcome, with suds of porter in hand.
A mild-mannered genius has come to save me.
I seem to rise as morning draws near.
Pushing through fields of tracks (green and alive).
The dew draws close to my hung down body, feeling alone, but in the comfort of friends.
If I drew this close to perfection, every moment I would be the field and I would be the green.
A conflict of mind and matter.
I would live in harmony beside you.
But never alone

"A mild-mannered genius has come to save me" could be a reference to Arp

"A conflict of mind and matter." sounds like a puzzling encounter...

That's what I get out of it at least... what do you guys think?

where's brutalex to back me up on this one... i swear, if you listen to psyopus and mongrel enough, you start to hear the influence... i think it's pretty awesome actually, they did it with style instead of just ripping off a tapping line or sliding up and down the fretboard

I'm here for ya, Paul.

Yeah he's right, seriously. Even just 7 seconds in, it sounds just like Imogen's Puzzle Pt. 1.

And then from 1:53 til the end, sounds just like Imogen's Puzzle Pt. 2.

You have to admit there's some definite influence there.

Paul and I have listened to the album many times and come to the same conclusion.

Most of the song doesn't sound like Psyopus, the have to Number 12 it out, so to speak but those two little riffs are surely an homage to Arp.

The point is that they should tour together. Soon. And come to Florida.

I think they wrote this song because Eyeball wanted them to have 10 tracks on mongrel. So they were like hey lets have a song with no time signatures. But, mongrel is fucking amazing

Most definetely. Unfortunately, I was actually introduced to PysOpus after the Number 12, and when I heard Imogens, I immediately thought they sounded similar.

I saw Number #12 at sounds of the underground, and I personally couldn't stand them. I had to leave during their set.
