Interview with Greg from Robinson

The Great City has a real story behind it. It seems to be very apocalyptic. Care to elaborate.

alrightttttt lets see here... um, as far as a story for it, the name came from revelations in the bible, speaking of an unnamed city that was between sodom and gommorah. when god ordered one of the plagues (i forget which one) it killed a third of the city's population, and the bodies were ordered, by god, to be laid in the streets and market places of the city for three weeks. and the surviving population were forced to carry on their everyday tasks while waddling throughi the decaying corpses of their loved ones. and the nickname "the Great City" was given to that particular location. as for the lyrics, theyre not preachy, but very biblical and "apocalyptic" as you put it. i play guitar (greg) so as far as true real; deal meanings for the lyrics, youd have to ask mike. but as far as everything else, there ya go! hah

How come you recorded your album for Southern Brutality down here in Florida? Aren't you guys from Ohio?

we didnt actually record down there, we just hung out with Hate while we were touring last year, and became very close friends with him. there has been talk of perhaps doing an album with hate, but nothing has been really confirmed, we just love that motherfucker hah.

Is that how you met up with the guys from Maruta? Tell us about the upcoming split. Is it going to be on Debello Recordings or on Marutas label (if they have one)?

yea thats pretty much how we met the dudes from maruta, who are fucking mind blowing. as far as the split, i believe it will be through debello, but its still up in the air as for now due to our horrible writing process. haha it takes us forever to all get in one place and to actually sit down and get to work. i mean, we've been working really hard on these songs and have many skeletons for new material (which is the best in my opinion weve ever written as a band) so you'll just have to wait for it!

Is there any other release in the works?

yea we have a couple releases in the works, we were asked to do some european releases with our buddies in The Anti Doctrine, and possibly a split with Gaza, and of course overall a new full length. so we've been pretty busy, not to mention we all work full time and tommy goes to school still.

How is the Ohio scene? I'm not too familiar because obviously I live in Florida, the only other band I know of from Ohio is Nine Inch Nails and Premonitions of War.

ohio...see im originally from pa, so i hate ohio. ahah. so i dont really know either, im sure im gonna get alot of shit for bad mouthing ohio. BRING IT. haha

You seem to be road dogs. Do you tend to prefer playing with more 'Hardcore' bands, metal bands, or modern Grindcore bands (i.e. Maruta, Ed Gein, etc)

we love the road, its a big part of this band, which is killing us right now due to us having to drop off the upcoming tour with gaza we had lined up. but family comes first above all ya know? there was some things that some of our members had to deal with and his attention had to be primarily focused back at home with his family instead of being torn on the road ya know? but we're getting back out there in the summer, so fear not, the horsemen shall ride. as far as playign with bands, i mean weve played with every type of band imaginable. my personal preference is more deathmetal shit and grind bands, like you mentioned those dudees in ed gein. those guys are our very close friends and its alwys a blast playing with them. and of course playign with bands that sound closer to your genre of music bring more people that get what youre trying to do, instead of a bunch of hardcore kids just staring at you waiting for a breakdown.

Playing such violent and frantic music has got to have some juicy stories from the road

oh dude, hahah there's a couple stories, i dont know if im at liberty to tell them, or if i was sober enough to remember the entire story haha. trust me, there's ben a few times on the road that i thought that we were never going to top ourselves. and then the next night came.

What happened with your old bassist? Heard he's now in From a Second Story Window How do you guys feel about that? Do you even like From a Second Story Window's music?

actually he was our guitar player, we didnt have a bassist, paul (ex guitar player) ran through a boss octave pedal to gain low end and to eliminate the annoying process of finding a bass player and teaching him an entire album of retarded shit that we even have trouble remembering sometimes. but yea, he quit and went with FASSW. we grew up with those dudes and have always been close to them, but i dont really have any say on the situation, its another bump in the road, and we have to get over it. granted paul was in the band from the beginnings of it and was a close friend, but to each his own i suppose.

How much alcohol do you think you consumed in 2006?

how much alcohol?..not enough.

Where do you see the band in 5 years?

i have no idea where the hell this band will be in the next five years, hopefully still playing music together, or even being listened to. its hard to keep reinventing yourself yet keeping the same strand of influence and sound that makes your band what it is ya know? i mean, you dont want to keep writing the same song or the same record, and it gets difficult to be original when your music is primarily nothing but blast beats and fast guitar work haha. but god damn do i love it.

I've never heard a drummer take beyond full advantage of such a tiny kit! Is there a certain 'smaller brush, bigger canvas' attitude in the band?

oh definaetly i would think. we're all extremely humble about ourselves and realize that it is anything but easy getting a band to be listened to and enjoyed, and we've been very fortunate to make all the friends and fans we have and gotten to go to all the places we've been so far. its awesome. but yea, we try to keep it no frills, fuck effects, just straight through natural distortion and alcohol fueled grindcore. i mean,we;re some dirty dudes man.. hahah we dont need pyrotechnics or flashing strobe lights. just booze drugs and sluts.

When are you guys going to play in Orlando and burn one with certain members of The Apparatus staff?

ALL WE NEED IS ASS GRASS AND A LITTLE BIT A GAS BABY. hahaha
