Being the first band from the Swedish grind sub-genre I have listened to, I can tell that this is a sub-genre I'm very much drawn to. 'The Funeral March' is what I am looking for in my grind: a strong sense of chaos, intensity, melody, caustic production and brutal vocals. I got all of that with this record. Where a lot of American and UK grind acts take strong influences from punk and hardcore, Gadget takes cues from Death and Black metal with some sludge thrown in for a break.

The strength of this album is how well the tracks play off each other. The album starter, "Choked" has a very cool black riff in the tail end followed with some death guitar and drum wizardry. The next few tracks flow insanely well together; it's a wonder they didn't just lump them together to make one cohesive song. The flow stops when 'Everyday Ritual' comes in. This is the album's first sludge song. Now, I don't mind sludge songs if they're implemented well, and this really feels out of place. It is an okay track, but when the first four songs are so varied and detailed, this simple song really puts a halt on things.

Luckily, the rest of the album is just as good, intense and technical as the first half. Closing out the record is 'Tingens Forbanneise.' Not only is this in the Swedish language of svenska, a plus, but it is another sludge track. If there's any way this band could choose to end their record, it's this way. It makes the album sound much more sinister than it already does. We got a lot of diversity in the speed department earlier, so this slow, moody ender is a converse to what they already set up.
