This limited edition tour EP is a mixed bag to say the least. Those wanting an official Genghis Tron live recording will be pleased, because the first three tracks are a mini-set of "Ride The Steambolt," "Chapels," and "The Folding Road." The songs sound pretty good for a live recording as they are energetic and, I daresay, atmospheric. I listened to this EP right after seeing the band live and it felt like I recorded the thing myself, as the quality and added live content was identical to what was on the CD.

What makes up the lion's share of the disc are many remixes. Four, in fact. And, they are ultimately unessential. Track four, the best of the set, is a kind of IDM/Drum & Bass shuffle of GT parts. It sounds pretty cool for what it is. Only those with a really careful ear will know what was sampled from what song. It's so jumbled and rapid that one will just have to sit back and listen to it passively. The remaining three remixes are, unfortunately, kind of a wasted opportunity. All of them take a single part from a previously-recorded track from 'Dead Mountain Mouth,' stretch the thing out, and add another layer of electronic trickery. That's it. I felt kind of ripped off. One track, "Dead Mountain Mouth (Epeirogenesis)," is over ten minutes long of virtually the same riff. And it's slow to boot; I lost interest rather quickly, unfortunately.

The real reason why I got this CD was for the untitled demo, later renamed "Colony Collapse," from the forthcoming album 'Board Up The House.' Overall, I liked the track. It felt like a happier outtake from 'Dead Mountain Mouth.' It has the typical song structure of a Genghis Tron track. Fans won't be disappointed. I suppose I wanted more in terms of experimentation, but since this is only a small sample of what to expect, count me in.

It comes in an envelope thing and the CD has a homemade sticker over a burned PC disc and an index card with credits. It's pretty cool to have considering it will undoubtedly become a sought-after collector's item like their previous remix EP called 'Cape Of Hate.' Collectors of band memorabilia and hardcore fans of Genghis Tron only need to pick this thing up. Get it for the live tracks and new demo, listen to the rest if you're feeling dangerous.
