This is an interesting EP from the original project of people that went on to form Maruta, Shitstorm, and Torche. At less than ten minutes, these four tracks, played as one continuous track on the album, are frantic grindcore mixed with ambient interludes and rock-based rhythms that makes the atmosphere uncertain. The album changes a lot and every part complements the last. It's a shame that the band ended up being put on a hiatus (perhaps permanent) before the full-length was written.

The record is equal parts post rock and grindcore, with the grind giving way to the ambience and vice/versa. Even though I can't really tell when which songs begin and which ones end, I can recognize each member's input. Vocals are by Mitchell Luna of Maruta, shrieking and hateful. Bass and drums by Jonathan Nunez and Rick Smith, respectively, are heavy and devastating like their bands Shitstorm and the more metal-y Torche.

The Miami, FL scene is clearly made up of remnants of this band, with Maruta and Torche being the more recognized bands out of the lineup. Historically, this is an important album because it holds the foundation of these bands when their real sounds were ripening. Each band that came out of Tyranny Of Shaw is far more developed than their older band was as a whole, and for hardcore fans of these bands, this record is a must. For everyone else, find which part you like and go for that band. You'll get more of the same quality.
