It is clear that this band has a real desire to make heavy, chaotic music. What's present in their demo, 'One Through Four,' are tracks that want to break into the technical deathcore of Despised Icon and The Faceless. While the intent of the band is admirable, I must mention the main flaw is the arrangement of the songs. So many parts feel copied and pasted scale runs mixed with breakdowns and other hardcore staples. The vocalist, while diverse, sounds inexperienced and paper-thin. The band seems to enjoy playing along to the bands they like rather than create their own sound. Oddly, there's a hip-hop beat with an "uhhhh" before the last song starts. Is that a joke? I don't know, but it felt out of place.

That's not to say that this band is a clone. Parts of the songs have many tones, tempos and textures (say that five times fast), and honestly, I like it. Because this band is very young, it's obvious to me that they're still trying to find their niche. I'm not expecting a Psyopus or Lye By Mistake level of musicianship here, but fewer "heard-thats" would be nice. The band can play their instruments well, but they do need some time away from the computer to focus on what parts in their sound are wholly them and not another band.

Criticism aside, I must say that this review is tough love. I want this band to succeed. I want them to be formidable. I can't help but feel like I got the rough draft in the first semester before the final thesis at the end. Visions Of is doing something I support with all my being: creating chaotic music. They are experimenting with a sound that few are going for. They do want to sound different, play good music, have fun, and do their thing. That is so awesome and I wish I could say that for 90% of bands out there. They just need some time and practice in order to run with the big dogs. With progression in writing music comes progression in their technical skill, and I want this to happen. I believe in this band. Good first effort and keep writing, guys.
