What can be said about Atheist that hasn't been said already? Through a climatic 3 year period, Atheist's diverse genre fusions opened countless doors and eventually gave heavy metal a positive and intellectual foundation to carry on further, than just a trend. Atheist's unique influence on metal is so profound that every single staff member of The Apparatus owes their taste in metal to Atheist. In fact, The Apparatus owes more to Atheist than any other music site on the web. Technical and progressive Metal wouldn't have the impact that it has without the 1993 jazz-metal masterpiece "Elements."

Here's an excerpt from Adam's review of "Elements" :

More fusion than outright metal this album is mature and thoughtful. Lyrically Atheist gets my kudos for originality as well as pulling off a non-bourgeois sappy environmentalism. While not for speed freaks, this album packs a lot of music. A fitting swansong, it is a testament to Atheist's legacy that while ending their own career, this album has pointed to many a bright future for other musicians inspired by their work.
Current Status:

As of July 14th 2006 Atheist made a return at the Bloodstock Open Air Festival and has played about 14 shows since then. Fourteen shows being a lot for a band broken up but it has been officially stated that Atheist will not write any new music and booking new reunion shows might soon dissolve. Amongst all of the member’s post-atheist bands predominantly drummer Steve Flynn and new live guitarists Chris Baker and Sony Carson continue to play in the Tech metal band Gnostic.

WALLPAPER!

We've put together a Timeline of Events tracking Atheist's career into a downloadable wallpaper for you die-hard Atheist fans.  It tracks each member throughout their various releases, from the pre-Atheist R.A.V.A.G.E. to their current reunion line-up... and we tried to make it look attractive enough to display on your desktop.  Enjoy!
